Chartwell School is seeking a High School/Middle School Humanities/Social Studies teacher to join our team for this 2023-24 school year. The appropriate candidate will be able to teach 9-12 Humanities to neurodiverse students.
We are an independent college preparatory school on the Monterey Peninsula in coastal California, approximately 100 miles south of San Francisco. For nearly 40 years Chartwell has been serving students in grades 1-12, who have been identified as having dyslexia or related language-based learning differences. Class sizes are small and teachers individualize instruction while teaching small groups.
The successful candidate is responsible for understanding student learning profiles and scaffolding instruction to meet the needs of individual students. A solid understanding of literary concepts and direct teaching of literacy skills is necessary. Experience with technology and blended learning platforms and teaching practices is helpful. A special education credential is also desirable, but not required.

The mission of Chartwell School is to diagnostically educate students with specific learning variations, including dyslexia, in a way that provides them with the academic skills, confidence, creativity and perseverance necessary to meet the challenges of mainstream education and lifelong learning.
Our students have average or better intelligence but may have struggled in traditional classrooms due to dyslexia or other learning disabilities and academic challenges. We provide co-ed students ages 5-18 with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to succeed.
