Indian Creek School is an independent, co-ed day school in which 560 students age 3 to Grade 12 partner with innovative teachers in an outstanding educational program. This position is full time, 10-month position with occasional summer responsibilities, reporting to the Upper School Principal.
- As Science Department Chair: lead the 6-12 Science Department, offering feedback through informal observations and as one component of the formal evaluation process, facilitating departmental conversations, partnering in curriculum review and evolution, and representing the Science department in all course development and course selection activities. Serve on the Curriculum Council.
- Teach four sections of Upper School science, including Biology and/or Chemistry, and serve as a faculty member in the Upper School STEM program.
- Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community.
- Collaborate with a Science department that is committed to scientific skill and content-mastery while centering educational innovation and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Work with the Upper School principal and administrative team to provide an excellent and engaging educational experience for students.
- Use a variety of assessments, such as inquiry-based labs, student and hands-on learning to measure student learning and drive instruction. Provide feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Serve as an academic advisor to a group of students.
- Attend all divisional, departmental, and school faculty meetings including professional development days.
- Desire to be actively engaged in the work of innovative teaching, diversity and inclusion, and ongoing professional growth.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in Science and Upper School education.
- Ability to teach two of the Science Department’s core courses (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and to think creatively about how these and future course offerings can ensure students have the skills they need to be successful.
