Bullis School seeks a Lower School Homeroom Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2024-25 academic year. Candidates should be capable of teaching a wide range of students, with a specific focus on developing and implementing a robust and engaging curriculum in language arts, mathematics, and social studies to a homeroom group of up to 14 students.
Lower School Homeroom teachers create the conditions for discovery inside and outside the classroom by supporting and encouraging students to take risks, collaborate, and explore. Teachers develop and implement curriculum, evaluate student work using grades and comments, and communicate student progress with parents. Successful Lower School teachers at Bullis are committed to ongoing professional development and a wide range of teaching approaches to reach a diverse student population. In line with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development, and lesson design are continuous endeavors.

Qualities of a Bullis Lower School Teacher
- An appreciation and respect for elementary-aged students as learners and people through challenging and joyful moments alike
- Commitment and knowledge to work with, teach, and lead groups of diverse individuals in respectful, equitable, and inclusive ways
- Good cheer, humor, and warmth, balanced by the professionalism and sound judgment
- Detail-oriented, with the capacity to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks and demands on attention
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
- Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
- Teaching certificates
- Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment, including iPad integration
- Solid conceptual and applied knowledge of current research and trends in elementary education, literacy, curriculum development, assessment, and best practices in instruction
- Experience with a structured literacy program which includes phonics instruction, Writer’s Workshop, and inquiry-based learning
- Orton-Gillingham training
