Lawrence Academy (LA) is a boarding and day school in Groton, MA, serving 400 students in grades 9-12. LA is seeking a full-time Science teacher beginning in August 2024. Candidates from all science disciplines are encouraged to apply with preference for physics and chemistry background. Ideal candidates will have practice using an inquiry-based approach, facilitating open-ended investigations, and have been involved in developing innovative science curricula. Experience with chemistry, physics, design thinking, entrepreneurship and project-based learning is a plus. This opportunity offers exciting collaborative curricular work with room for growth and potential leadership.
Science courses at LA have a substantial laboratory component, and prospective candidates should have significant practice supervising and facilitating hands-on activities and overseeing and organizing safe lab practices. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and working closely with adolescents and be willing to work in a collaborative environment. This position will require teaching four sections of Science.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates must be willing to engage in all aspects of boarding school life from curricular, co-curricular (primarily athletics), and extracurricular programming to residential life programming. Campus housing is available for faculty positions. All members of the faculty are part of our residential program and have regular weekday night duty and some weekend duties.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Must have 2-5 years of teaching experience.
• Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to all aspects of boarding school life.
• Successfully complete required background checks.
