The Temporary Director of GirlSummer will lead the GirlSummer program at Emma Willard School for the 2024 season. This will include collaboration with the current Director of GirlSummer in envisioning unique summer offerings, hiring all staff, managing a budget, and overseeing the successful implementation of an exemplary summer experience for students which is aligned with the mission of Emma Willard School.
We seek someone who is committed to navigating today’s changing and diverse landscape to help the school promote and nurture diversity, equity, and inclusion. Essential Responsibilities:
Beginning February 1 (10 hours a week - flexible start/end time to be determined)
Preparation for GirlSummer, including:
Training with the current director and assistant director on the operations of GirlSummer
Budget management training
Monitor and oversee registration process
Address any individual parent communications as needed
Complete the required paperwork and site visits required by Rensselaer County Department of Health.
June 1- August 9 (Full-time - Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm)
Oversees day-to-day operations of the camp, including:
Supply management and set up of program
Work with outside vendors for supply and program ordering
Oversee and support the Assistant Director of GirlSummer & Office Manager
Train and manage all camp staff
Manage the safety and supervision of all campers
Oversee daily operations including before and after care for campers
Organize, create, schedule and oversee Showcase Day
Maintain communication with parents, and oversight of the staff to ensure the program runs smoothly and safely
Ensure Department of Health operations are followed throughout program
Breakdown of program
Bachelor’s degree
2+ years’ experience working with students in a school setting, preferably leading a summer program or camp
Interest and experience working with girls from age 6-14
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Collaborative with a passion for hard work, and an interest in being part of a dynamic community
Proven ability to work independently
Ability to connect with students and families from various backgrounds and experiences
Tech savvy; familiarity with database systems; proficiency in Google suite, CampMinder, or camp software
Steppingstone prepares students from marginalized communities to access, navigate, and graduate from college through two initiatives, the Steppingstone Scholars Program and the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA). The Steppingstone Scholars Program is a direct-service program in Boston that provides academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness services to students, called Scholars, beginning as early as fifth grade and continuing all the way through college graduation. The Steppingstone Scholars Program consists of five components: Admissions, the Academy, Middle School Success, High School Success, and College Success. NPEA connects the people, practices, and innovations for eliminating barriers to educational access, and college and career success for underserved students.
