Position Title: Senior Associate Director of Communications and Marketing
Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades Pre-K-12. Founded in 1759, GA is America’s oldest non-sectarian day school with rich traditions and a strong commitment to ongoing innovation of curricular and pedagogical practices.

Position Purpose: The Senior Associate Director of Communications and Marketing reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing and serves as a team member in the Germantown Academy Office of Institutional Advancement. This position helps lead, along with the Director, the coordination of communications and marketing efforts of the school through a variety of mediums to advance the school’s mission. The Senior Associate Director of Communications and Marketing will assist in implementing a new strategic communications plan for the Academy, as well as co-lead the school’s web redesign to support admission, academics, athletics, and fundraising to increase the strength, reputation, and reach of the Germantown Academy brand.

Essential Functions:
Play a pivotal role in advancing the school’s mission while collaborating with the communications and marketing team to develop and execute marketing strategies that align with the school’s brand and objectives, and maintain a consistent tone, style, and voice.
Co-lead the upcoming web redesign to commence in 2025, providing research, content, branding, photography, and video design to highlight GA’s story of tradition and innovation. Finalsite experience a plus.
Serve as an excellent storyteller with and for a variety of constituents to promote GA to prospective families and share the pride and return on investment with current GA constituents.
Research industry trends, best practices, and competitor activity to inform content strategy for all forms of marketing.
Track communications data and provide engagement metrics reporting to use in communications segmenting and strategy.
Monitor all aspects of GA’s social media presence ensuring best practices in content management, consistency in messaging and integration of brand identity. Analyze metrics to continue to enhance GA’s position within social media spaces.
Develop benchmarks, data metrics, and analytics to measure effectiveness of strategies and support decision-making.
Provide marketing support, photography, and videography for school events.
Create and/or facilitate various marketing materials such as event assets and digital content (social media posts, promotional videos, etc.) for various departments, including but not limited to fundraising, athletics, student life, academics, etc.
Plan and execute on-campus events along with parent volunteers for friend- and fundraisers.
Collaborate with Admission, Institutional Advancement, and three divisions to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging.
Participate in concept development and script writing for video content, focusing on content for Admission, Head of School, and Institutional Advancement.
Maintain the school’s Style Guide.
Assist in written content for the school’s magazine, The Patriot.
Implement new software and platforms as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of experience in communications, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
Exceptional people management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to authentically capture and amplify a wide range of voices through written and visual storytelling while embodying a commitment to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Superior organizational skills with close attention to detail and ability to establish and meet priorities and deadlines.
Strong proficiency in digital communication and marketing tools and platforms, including content management systems (Finalsite preferred), Student Information Systems (Veracross preferred), Microsoft Office, email software, and design software – Adobe Creative Suite, Quark, InDesign, Canva, Photoshop, FinalCut Pro, and other video editing platforms.
Distinct understanding of social media best practices and a keen eye for following and developing cultural trends including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, etc.
Ability to foster and maintain relationships with media outlets with the intent of gaining publicity for the school.
Event planning experience to include volunteer management, graphic design, community-gatherings, fundraising, auctions, sponsorships, etc.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of SEO/SEM and Google Analytics (or similar analytical tool) preferred.
Ability and enthusiasm to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
