Job Description:
The After Care program at GEMS World Academy is a place for our Lower School students to play, socialize, learn, and grow. After Care Teachers will assist with supervision and management of children from Preschool to Fifth Grade, ensure their safety and physical well-being, maintain regular communication with staff, and will contribute to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.
There may be additional opportunities to work throughout the school year including full day faculty child care, leading Enrichment Clubs, as well as teaching during February/April Break Camps and Summer Camp.
Main responsibilities for an After Care Teacher include:
- Assist After Care Enrichment Club lead teachers in implementing activities (2:45-4:30 pm)
- Have positive interactions with students and engage them as individuals
- Assist in Preschool/Junior Kindergarten After Care by ensuring activities are developmentally appropriate and routines are followed consistently (2:45-4:30 pm)
- Supervise and facilitate free play with a mixed age group during Extended Care (4:30-6:00 pm)
- Work with a variety of students and teachers in all settings
- Collaborate with GEMS faculty and staff
- Effectively use GEMS behavior guidance techniques to help children develop the ability to become self-disciplined.
- Communicate effectively with children, teachers, staff, families as needed, Director of After Care, Head of School, and other GEMS staff.
- Additional responsibilities as needed and determined by the Director of the program or Head of School
- Administering first aid, monitoring allergies, taking attendance
- Actively supervising children during free play (on our rooftop playground or in a classroom)
- Communicating with students, teachers, school staff, and families as needed
- Organizing and keeping a clean learning space to include, tidying supplies and cleaning classroom as needed
- Working with students of a variety of ages and abilities
- Being prompt and prepared each day
- GED or High School Diploma
- At least 1 year of experience working in an after-school setting or with preschool and elementary age children.
