Sacred Heart Greenwich is an independent, Catholic day school for girls from Kindergarten through grade 12 with a co-ed preschool. We are currently seeking a part-time Lower School Assistant teacher for Grades 1 and 2 to start immediately.
Position: Part-Time Lower School Assistant Teacher (Leave Replacement) Reports to: Head of Lower School FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary
This position is a leave replacement from approximately August 26th-October 10th. The schedule is 8am-12pm Monday through Friday. The part-time Lower School Assistant Teacher supports the Homeroom Teacher in providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it. This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Essential Functions
Support three Homeroom Teachers across three sections in Grades 1 and 2 in the preparation of their classrooms and classroom materials (i.e. organizing materials for the start of school, creating bulletin boards, making copies, etc.)
Plan and prepare a supportive and caring classroom environment with each Homeroom Teacher so that children can learn and interact positively with one another
Work 1-1 and in small groups with students to support the lessons taught by the Homeroom Teachers
Sub when the lead teacher is not available (i.e. sick or absent)
All assistant teachers are expected to:
Assume collaborative responsibility for the educational environment of the School by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner
Participate fully in regular School programs during their working hours (i.e. meetings, committees, assemblies, field trips, etc.)
Use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction
Interact positively with colleagues in creating and imparting units of study
Fulfill responsibilities as assigned by the Lower School Head in regard to lunch and recess duty, etc.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field; teaching experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities of his/her grade assignment. Knowledge of the cognitive and developmental needs of elementary students.
