Villa Academy seeks a part-time Extended Day Teacher (serving Preschool students) to join its team beginning August 20, 2024. This three and a half hours/day role will be working directly with students aged three to five after school, in partnership with the Extended Day team. As well as with students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade as needed. Hours are 2 – 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Throughout the year there will be additional hours required when school is closed, and full-day care is offered. This is a ten-month, non-exempt position that follows the academic calendar, reporting to the Director of Student Experience.
The ideal candidate has a current knowledge of early childhood education. They will know, appreciate, and enjoy young learners and be well-versed in their developmental needs. The candidate will be enthusiastic, informed, engaging, and experienced in developmentally appropriate practices. They have a commitment to growing in cultural competence, professional development, and skill application.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate play-based, child-centered after-school learning experiences for children aged three to five, as well as six to ten as needed.
Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities for Preschool students, as well as Kindergarten through Fourth Grade students as needed.
Provide care and rest periods for the children, as well as a variety of other services required for a licensed facility.
Administer basic first aid when necessary.
Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment.
Collaborate with other members of the Extended Day team.
Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers about their child's progress.
Participate in faculty/staff, grade level, and division meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate or a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (including degree in process); teaching credential preferred.
2+ years of experience working with children aged three to five in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting.
Experience in planning and leading activities for preschool-aged students.
Desire to utilize outdoor spaces to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment.
Readiness to obtain a Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families Merit certification, required of all employees in licensed facilities.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, kneel and sit on the floor, and be active with children.
Capacity to perform all housekeeping tasks and any other duties as part of the role's responsibilities.
Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, faculty/staff, and campus partners.
Positive energy and enthusiasm for working in a Preschool through Eighth Grade, faith-based independent school.
A commitment to ongoing professional growth, curiosity, cultural humility, and antiracism, as well as an understanding of its critical role in academic excellence and student growth.
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Anticipated salary ranges between $25 – 28.20/hour, dependent upon education and experience. Villa Academy offers a robust benefits package for part-time employees including 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions, free parking, and paid time off.
