Description: The Awty International School has an immediate opening for a Teacher of Physical Education and Athletic Coach. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Secondary Physical Education during the day as well as coach a minimum of two athletic seasons.
Reports To: Head of Physical Education & Director of Athletics
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in a school environment or athletic related field.
Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and one of the school’s primary languages, French or Spanish.
Head coaching experience.
Physical Education Teaching Duties:
Plan and instruct Middle School and/or Upper School physical education classes daily as assigned by the department chair.
Ensure progression of skill development which challenges students individually and as a group.
Develop and utilize assessment methods for measuring growth and achievement.
Create a positive learning environment that fosters engagement.
Serve as Head or Assistant Coach for at least two athletic seasons.
Organize and maintain physical education equipment and uniforms.
Collaborate and work effectively with the physical education and athletic department.
Attend and positively contribute to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary.
Participate in the wider life of the school and be responsible for other duties as assigned such as special projects and presentations, school trips and service learning activities as well as attending curriculum nights, conferences, open houses, and other school and parent events as needed.
Maintain regular school hours; some evening and weekend hours may be required when school is in session.
Coaching and/or Athletic Administrative Duties:
Coach a minimum of two sport seasons.
Organize and conduct practices, conditioning programs and competitive events.
Instruct with sound principles and expert skills in specified sport.
Foster an environment of continuous improvement at the team and individual level.
Manage, monitor and comply with all athletic department policies and procedures.
Promote the total athletic program and contribute to the wider life of the school including attending parent meetings, student presentations and admissions events.
Complete all related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
