Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a part-time after school robotics coach beginning in September 2024. In the Brentwood Robotics program, students and teachers work together to develop a growth mindset and deepen critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Iterative workflow processes support and challenge students to better understand their learning and acquire increasingly sophisticated strategies as engineers. The robotics season typically starts in September and goes through mid-March, depending on their advancement in the competition.
Robotics Coach Duties Include:
Organizing and monitoring the Middle and Upper School FTC team
Supervising students in the robotics program three school days a week and providing support, including facilitating research, design, and innovation, providing technical advice, helping maintain engineering notebooks, and evaluating prototypes and robotics systems
Attending competitions with students, some of which may occur in the evenings or on weekends
Using 3D CAD software to design robotic systems, employing various tools for building, and possessing coding knowledge with the ability to think algorithmically
Ordering and maintaining all equipment and supplies
Managing the student engineering notebook and binder
Creating a team schedule for design and building (minimum two-afternoon meetings per week from 3:30pm-5:30pm, with more needed during competition weeks)
Coordinating parent involvement at competitions
Working with other departments to create outreach opportunities and recruit new students to the robotics teams
Serving as technical support for the FTC team
Following all safety rules and guidelines of the FTC program and other competitions
Enforcing standards of gracious professionalism, behavior, and production quality
Implementing branding and marketing systems for the teams
Ensuring that all students are treated equally and rewarded for their efforts
Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles, and beliefs
Create an environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of view
Attending BCIL Collaborative Meetings, participating in Divisional Team Meetings, and contributing to various BCIL initiatives such as the innovation challenge, impact challenge, speaker series, and symposium
Performing other duties as assigned by the BCIL Director or the Senior Administrative Team
In addition, the robotics coach should demonstrate the following personal qualities:

While being vaccinated for COVID-19 is not required, it is strongly recommended.
COMPENSATION: $12,000
