Description: The Wheeler School After School Teacher is responsible for helping to plan and provide for the safe operation of Wheeler’s After School Program in a manner consistent with the policies and philosophy of the School. The after school program provides supervised age appropriate activities for Wheeler students at The Nest (Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten at the Farm campus in Seekonk, MA )from 12:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through and in the Lower School (Kindergarten - Grade Five at the Providence, RI campus) from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30/5:45 p.m., Monday through Friday during the academic year when school is in session. This care takes place in our classroom spaces and outdoors in all types of weather. In addition, the Teacher will be required to work full care days at the Farm four times per year. The after school position reports to the After School Programs Director. This is a part time position and is not eligible for benefits.
Qualifications: Experience working with primary school age children is required. Candidates must be physically able to participate in activities with students and be able to make informed and sound judgments, particularly with regard to safety, under a variety of circumstances. This position requires flexibility, good communication skills, and the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is someone with positive energy who builds warm and engaging connections with children, families and colleagues.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supporting the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School
Planning, organizing, and implementing age appropriate activities and lessons for students in afterschool programs and Vacation Camps and Conference Care programs in the classroom setting and outdoor spaces
Actively engaging and interacting with all students during after school hours
Assuring the safety of the students at all times
Building and maintaining positive working relationships with families
Participating in and contributing to weekly and monthly staff meetings
Recommending ideas for improvement to the Program Coordinator and the Director of the Nest
