St. Mary Academy-Bay View is seeking a part-time Orchestra teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. This position is responsible for teaching courses across grades 4 through 12. This position will also coordinate concerts and opportunities for students to showcase their progress and accomplishments within and outside of the Academy. There is the possibility of teaching private or small group music lessons to students after school. Candidates must be committed to an all-girls education and Mercy values.
Responsibilities:
Preparing & Teaching:
o Beginner stringed instruments classes for grades 4 and 5
o Beginner Orchestra Ensemble for Middle School students (Grades 6-8) o Intermediate and Advanced Orchestra Ensemble for Upper School students (Grades 9-12)
o Encourage and facilitate participation in RI Music Education Association (RIMEA) All-State and Solo and Ensemble through assistance with preparation of audition material and membership
o Create and facilitate after school club for Orchestra to accommodate students unable to participate during school hours
Collaborating with the department chair and other department members to collaborate on performances and integrated projects;
Promoting and coordinating Bay View’s orchestra and string quartet;
Integrating practice, refinement of skills, sharing and interpretation of music into the learning environment.
Employing high-quality instruction using evidence-based practices to support all learners
Utilizing instructional and recordkeeping strategies and/or other appropriate technology.
Creating instructional programming that promotes the academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth of students in an all-girls school.

Qualifications for this position are:
BA/BS degree in Music Performance or Music Education, Masters degree preferred
Member of the RI Music Educators Association
Demonstrated experience in teaching instrumental music and proficiency with orchestral instruments
Knowledge of classical and contemporary music in orchestral and ensemble setting ? High energy level, creative and forward-thinking
Strong work ethic and a caring temperament.
Understands and appreciates the developmental range of the age group
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Collaborative skills, including the ability to work with colleagues and parents
A sense of humor, warmth, and a love of working with children and their families.
