The Quaker School at Horsham (TQS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Upper School special education teacher to join our team as our Real World Ready Program teacher, focusing on serving students with complex challenges who are between the ages of 18 and 22; have completed the Upper School division, and are preparing for the skills needed for community, education and employment paths based on their individual goals. This role will play a crucial part in providing specialized instruction and support to students who require individualized attention to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
TQS uses research-based programs provided by compassionate professionals to enable each student with complex challenges to blossom and achieve meaningful personal, social and academic success. Our compassionate community builds trusting relationships among students, parents, therapists, faculty and staff.
The students at TQS in grades K-12 have struggled in traditional schools and come with a pressing need for a safe learning environment where they can confidently face the challenges of learning. These students have a mix of disabilities: ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, expressive and receptive language disorders, and anxiety disorders. At TQS, we use the latest findings from educational research to guide our curriculum and nurture our students’ inherent curiosity and desire to learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development: Design and adapt instructional materials and methods to meet the unique learning needs of students with complex challenges, ensuring alignment with state standards and individualized needs.
Individualized Instruction: Implement evidence-based strategies and interventions tailored to students' abilities and learning styles, fostering skill development in communication, social interaction, academic achievement and daily living skills.
Behavioral Support: Utilize positive behavior support techniques to manage challenging behaviors effectively, create a structured and supportive learning environment, and promote students' self-regulation and emotional well-being.
Collaboration: Work closely with parents, caregivers, support staff, and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive educational plans, monitor progress, and address students' diverse needs holistically.
Data Collection and Assessment: Conduct ongoing assessments, track student progress, and maintain accurate records to inform instructional planning, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and ensure accountability.
Professional Development: Stay abreast of best practices, research findings, and advancements in special education and autism intervention, participating in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
Advocacy: Serve as a dedicated advocate for students, promoting inclusive practices, raising awareness, and fostering understanding and acceptance within the school community and beyond.
Be involved in the school community at large.
Attend school functions beyond the regular school hours as designated by the school calendar and personnel manual.
Drive the school vehicle.
Participate in physical activity with children and moveable equipment.
Engage in child restraints as designated by SafetyCare training.
