The Baldwin School seeks applicants for the position of a long-term substitute Upper School Art Teacher from October 2024 through January of 2025. All Baldwin teachers participate in the life of the School and support the School's mission. Successful candidates will teach 5 classes (2 Jewelry Courses, 2 Art 1 Foundation Courses, 1 Fiber & Glass Course), attend faculty and department meetings, and engage in those duties typical of independent school life.
Successful candidates will have experience in areas of jewelry making, fine arts, fibers and stained glass. They will teach the subject material effectively, engage students positively, with a growth mindset, and interact productively with colleagues and parents. Successful candidates will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.
Responsibilities:
In partnership with the department chair and Visual Arts colleagues, deliver curriculum and lessons developed by the department to ensure a cohesive learning trajectory;
Create an inclusive and supportive classroom community, establishing routines and building relationships with students;
Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students;
Assess student progress and provide students with regular and timely feedback about their progress; and
Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Division Director and Head of School.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and course work in related field;
Experience in the areas of jewelry making, stained glass making, and knitting;
Enthusiasm for teaching art at the secondary level and embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom;
A commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected;
Positive attitude towards students, staff and faculty; and
Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (written and verbal).
