Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks a committed and engaging English Language Arts Long-term Substitute Teacher who demonstrates proficiency in progressive pedagogies and consistently utilizes student-centered techniques. Reports to: Head of Middle School
Status: Temporary Salaried/Exempt
Start Date:12/15/2024
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm; additional time as needed for after-school meetings and professional development.
Responsibilities:
Teach five total sections of 5th-grade English Language Arts classes, with four sections meeting each day for 55 minutes on a rotating schedule
Serve as an advisor to a group of students during four 55-minute periods each week
Challenge students to analyze and comprehend literary and informational texts
Inspire students to be strong analytical and creative writers
Teach students to understand and use literary devices such as personification, figurative language, and imagery
Utilize appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials that reflect an understanding of various learning styles
Personalize lesson plans based on sound, research-based methods of instruction
Build a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of adolescent students
Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessment of student achievement
Implement classroom management techniques that align with the school’s culture
Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, phone calls, emails, texts, and conferences
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the school community
Demonstrate proficiency with Google Suite for Education productivity tools
Integrate technology into the curriculum to strengthen the teaching/learning process
Participate in school events and community service projects
Fulfill other duties as requested
Qualifications:
Actions and values that align with the AOS Mission
Bachelor’s degree in education or English
Knowledge of research-based practices for effective middle school instruction and adolescent development
Demonstrated knowledge of and love for working with middle school students with great energy, playfulness, and understanding
