Harrisburg Academy is seeking a dynamic and passionate educator to join our academic team as a part-time IB Diploma Programme (DP) Biology teacher, starting in October for the 2024/2025 school year. This role is a unique opportunity for an individual committed to fostering a deep understanding of biological sciences within the context of the IB Diploma Programme.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Delivery: Teach IB DP Biology for both Year 1 and Year 2 students, guiding them through the rigorous and enriching curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, experimental skills, and theoretical knowledge.
Inquiry-Based Learning: Develop and deliver engaging and innovative lesson plans that align with the IB’s emphasis on inquiry-based learning and holistic education. Encourage students to explore complex biological concepts and foster their ability to conduct independent research.
Assessment and Feedback: Design and administer assessments that reflect the IB standards and provide constructive feedback to support students' growth. Prepare students for the IB examinations with comprehensive review sessions and practice assessments.
Student Support: Mentor and support students in their academic and personal growth, helping them to develop strong analytical and practical skills in biology.
Collaboration and Professional Development: Work collaboratively with fellow faculty members to ensure a cohesive and integrated educational experience. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in IB education and biology.
Qualifications:
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree and/or IB training in Biology is highly preferred.
Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching biology at the high school level, preferably within an IB or similar international curriculum framework. Familiarity with IB DP Biology content, assessment methods, and pedagogical approaches is essential.
Skills and Attributes: Strong commitment to the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry-based learning, global perspectives, and interdisciplinary connections. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a passion for inspiring and motivating students.
