St. Bernard’s School is a K-9 independent boys’ school founded in 1904. The school, located on the Upper East Side, serves a diverse community of approximately 380 students and 100 employees.

We are seeking a Science teacher for coverage for the months of November and December. The science teacher should have a firm understanding of cellular biology (structure and function, growth and division, and DNA structure and replication) for the 9th-grade curriculum. In the 4th grade, they will need to teach students about ecosystems and biodiversity. The 5th-grade curriculum will cover climate change and its impact on different communities/ecosystems throughout the world. Finally, the teacher will need to guide 4th and 5th students through a portion of their science fair projects using secondary data. This Science teacher will be expected to coordinate with the current Science teacher and Head of Science about the student curriculum and grades. The teacher will have the opportunity to provide an effective learning environment through planning, organizing, developing, and assessing a comprehensive instructional Science curriculum for grades IV, V, and IX. This position will include teaching five sections of Science.
Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively with homeroom teachers and parents regarding student progress, academic performance, and emotional well-being.
Assign, grade, and return homework, tests, and lab assignments promptly.
Maintain and update a Google Classroom to facilitate student learning and communication.
Provide individualized support to students during prep periods to help them succeed.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and collaboration.
Implement inquiry-based learning approaches to engage students and develop critical thinking skills.
Guide and supervise students during lab work, ensuring their safety and understanding of scientific concepts.
Actively participate in department meetings and contribute to maintaining a well-organized and functional science lab.
Ability and willingness to cover classes and other supervisory periods when needed.
Participate in the life of the school community through activities such as supervising a student lunch table, attending school assemblies, etc.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $115,000 ($6,250 to $9,583 per month). St. Bernard’s School considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
