Position Summary The Pingry School seeks a dedicated and adaptable Lower School Permanent Substitute Teacher to join our team. This full-time role requires a dynamic educator who can step into various teaching positions and responsibilities as needed, providing consistent support to students and maintaining continuity of instruction. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with elementary-aged children, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to effectively execute lesson plans across a range of subjects and grade levels.
This is a full-time, 10-month position. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:10 p.m., plus aftercare coverage from 3:10 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
The Lower School Permanent Substitute reports directly to the Lower School Division Director.
Serve as a full-time substitute teacher for lower school classes (grades K-5), adapting to the needs of the school each day.
Deliver engaging and effective instruction across various subjects, following prepared lesson plans and adapting them as necessary.
Manage classroom environments to maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe space for all students.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, administrators, and other faculty to support student learning and school initiatives.
Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, serving as a reliable and approachable presence in the school community.
Assist with additional duties as assigned, including supervising lunch, recess, or other school activities.
Maintain accurate student attendance, behavior, and progress records, and communicate with appropriate staff as needed.
Provide feedback to teachers on student performance and classroom dynamics when covering for extended periods.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
Prior experience working with elementary-age children, preferably in a classroom setting.
Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create a structured and engaging learning environment.
Ability to execute lesson plans effectively and adapt to the needs of diverse learners.
Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
Flexibility and an ability to work across various disciplines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Google Classroom, Seesaw, and Zoom.
Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude toward working in a dynamic school environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and school staff.
