St. Andrew’s School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year to expand our Spanish department. St. Andrew’s was founded in 1929 as an independent, Episcopal boarding school. The school educates about 315 students from around the world each year in an all-residential setting, and has a long-standing commitment to financial aid and socioeconomic diversity. Our students and faculty come from a wide range of backgrounds, traditions, and experiences, and it is this variety that creates a vibrant and challenging learning environment that makes our worlds larger.
The successful candidate must exhibit a high level of proficiency in all modalities of the Spanish language—speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They should have the ability to comprehend contemporary media, both oral and written, in Spanish. The teacher will have a profound understanding of the social, political, historical, and economic realities of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as experience in using online resources and other technology to enhance teaching. The successful candidate will show a lively interest in current pedagogy and scholarship, an ongoing commitment to continuing to develop their own cultural competence, and a deep dedication to meeting the needs of diverse student learners. Candidates should be creative, resourceful, optimistic, and collaborative.
This position also involves full participation in the extracurricular and student life programs of this residential community.
Responsibilities:
Four class sections;
Two seasons of athletic coaching or two seasons of a major, non-athletic extracurricular program;
Dormitory duty once or twice a week;
Weekend duty once every four weekends;
Participation in school committees and activities.
Job Requirements:
Interested applicants should have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish or a related field, or possess demonstrable fluency in the language; teaching experience is beneficial but not required.
Applicants must have a passion for working with and living in community with adolescents.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with the experience to coach any of our sports programs will be given strong consideration in this search. Most notably, we are seeking coaches of squash, wrestling, field hockey, football, tennis, volleyball, crew, and basketball, but we are not limited to this. Applicants with these qualifications should highlight them in their application materials.
