THE POSITION
The Upper School English/History Teacher (Leave Replacement) collaborates with classroom and grade level colleagues, specialist teachers, and administration to plan, create, and implement English/History curriculum for children in 9th and 10th grades.Applicants should have experience working with and teaching English and US History/Civics in a secondary setting. Demonstration of strong classroom management skills, comfort using classroom technology, an investment in continued professional growth, and a commitment to promoting a diverse community is expected. The English/History teacher is responsible for ongoing assessment and communication with parents and the Head of the Upper School about student progress. Additionally, the English/History Teacher is responsible for duties as assigned. All Upper School teachers are expected to be active community members, sharing supervisory duties and general support and care of the school community.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
This position reports to the Head of Upper School.
Teach threeEnglish classes to students in grades 9-10 and one section of US History/Civics section
Serve as an co-advisor to a group of 12th graders
Support the academic/social/emotional development of all students
Collaborate well with colleagues to plan, create, and implement curriculum
Communicate effectively with families with regard to all aspects of classroom life and child development
Align curriculum and activities to the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program
Be responsible for ongoing student assessment, grading, and comment writing
Share supervisory duties and general support and care of the school community
Perform necessary routine tasks and daily maintenance of the classroom
Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate(IB) diploma program (preferred)
Invested in continued professional growth
Demonstrates strong communication skills (oral and written)
Comfortable working with families
Comfortable using classroom technology
Seeks to be an active community member
Approaches work with flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn
Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Must be eligible to work in the United States
Physical Requirements of the Job
Must be able to work in an office environment including prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Must be able to stand, bend over, twist and reach to access file cabinets, bookshelves and navigate office and workstation spaces.
Must be able to ambulate through a classroom setting, including walking up stairs.
Union Status: Non-Union
Salary Range: $69,500 to $85,000
This salary range represents the expected annual salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your education level, experience, and other job-related factors.
