The Facilities Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of facilities within the school. This individual assists in overseeing the day-to-day activities related to building maintenance, safety protocols, and facility-related projects. They are expected to be highly organized, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate proficiency in multiple aspects of facility maintenance.
Essential Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities
Conduct routine daily inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
Diagnose and repair broken assets, such as plumbing, heating and wiring. Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and powered electric tools.
Collaborate with custodial staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of facility projects and repairs.
Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to prolong the lifespan of equipment and facilities.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment inventory, and safety inspections.
Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies and address issues as they arise, including outside of regular business hours as needed.
Help enforce compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
Use a maintenance request system to coordinate with other departments to support facility-related needs and initiatives, such as office relocations or event planning. Assist with events set up and break down.
Clear school grounds of snow, debris, and/or ice as needed.
Water outside plants and trees as needed.
Ability to independently lift and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk stairs, kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, twist, bend, use ladders, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time.
Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in facility management
Proven experience (3-5 years) in facility management, building maintenance, or related field.
Strong technical knowledge of building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
