The Compass School will welcome its inaugural class of students in August 2025 with the goal of growing into a fully accredited PK--8 independent school with a student body of approximately 200 students.
The Compass School is seeking a passionate and experienced educator to join our teaching community as an Anchor Teacher for our Exploration Class for the 2025–2026 academic year with a start date of July 1, 2025. TCS Anchor Teachers guide students through instruction and exploratory learning in grade level settings. Our Exploration Class consists of a group of eight (8) to sixteen (16) students ages 5–6.
Exploration Class Anchor Teachers will collaborate closely with colleagues, including the Director of Learning, to cultivate a reflective and supportive learning environment. Our Anchor Teachers are dedicated educators who embody our commitment to student-centered learning, collaboration, and family partnership. They lead engaging lessons, create supportive classrooms, and utilize student data to inform their instructional practices. Moreover, Anchor Teachers actively collaborate with colleagues and families to ensure students' success. By fostering a positive and nurturing environment, they play a crucial role in helping students reach their full potential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Exploration Class Anchor Teacher
An Anchor Teacher at TCS is a student-centered educator and collaborative colleague who can build strong family partnerships as a caring advocate and trusted partner in supporting students' success.
Student-Centered Educator
Teaches or co-teaches lessons, facilitates small group instruction, and guides in-depth learning experiences (i.e., Deep Dives).
Creates an environment that ignites curiosity, nurtures compassion, and empowers students to reach their full potential.
Values and incorporates students' voices, experiences, and backgrounds.
Analyzes student growth to inform and adapt instructional strategies, implementing lessons that support and challenge each learner.
Mentors students’ social-emotional wellbeing and character development;
Strives to be a facilitator of knowledge and critical thinking.
Collaborative Colleague
Regularly meets with the Director of Learning and peer Exploration Class teachers to ensure students' learning experiences align with their goals and address their needs.
Leverages student data and observations to support student learning.
Informally observes and documents student learning to provide ongoing feedback and progress reports.
Continuously reflects on and improves direct instruction materials for the Exploration Class.
Collaborates on the design and implementation of a seamless transition from the Exploration Class to Discovery Class 1, ensuring a smooth and supportive learning environment for students.
Family Partner and Student Advocate
Leads Family Check-Ins and builds strong relationships with families.
Collaborates with peer Exploration Class teachers and Director of Learning to provide comprehensive end-of-year assessments and narrative comments.
In addition to their core responsibilities, Anchor Teachers will share supervision duties throughout the week and participate in weekly morning educator gatherings. They will also be expected to attend all school events, including admissions events held on three (3) Saturdays during the school year. The Compass School day with students runs from 8:45 AM to 3:15 PM.
As a dedicated educator, TCS Anchor Teachers strive to be culturally competent, continuously reflects on and refines their educational approach, and stays up-to-date on best practices in child development and early education. They are open to learning from colleagues and sharing their own thoughts and ideas in a collaborative and supportive manner.
