Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking a creative and patient Laboratory Technician. This is a full-time position. The Department serves students in grades PreK–12, including an Integrated Biology & Chemistry program in 9th and 10th grades as well as Physics, AP courses, and electives in 11th and 12th grades.
Responsibilities: The Laboratory Technician supports teachers in providing a robust laboratory experience, all in close consultation and coordination with the Science Faculty. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparing solutions and other materials
Purchasing and keeping current inventory of supplies and chemicals
Setting up and disassembling materials for classroom demos and experiments
Cleanup of laboratory spaces and materials
Monitoring safe storage and disposal of chemicals in accordance with all state and federal regulations, in coordination with the Chemical Safety Officer
Being the point person for our on-site greenhouse and maintaining it
Additionally, this position may also include working with students on independent research projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science; Master’s degree preferred
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
Understanding of safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals
Laboratory research and/or laboratory teaching experience
Some knowledge of botany and experience in working in a greenhouse (prior experience with iGrow is ideal, but a willingness to learn it is a must)
A desire to work in an educational environment
Experience preparing different types of gels and bacterial cultures
