DESCRIPTION:
St. Paul’s School seeks a Director of the Theater Program to begin duties in the late summer of 2025. Courses offered in our Theater Program explore the fundaments of acting, directing, and playwriting, and aim to teach foundational skills to those who are just beginning their study of theater and to further hone the skills of those students who wish to pursue beyond the secondary school level. The breadth and depth provide students multiple entry points into the program. In addition to teaching, this position will direct three major co-curricular productions each year that allow students to share their creativity and skills with the greater community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will be responsible for teaching three courses in theater and overseeing curriculum design for the program ranging from the introductory level to advanced, directing three major productions per year including a student one act festival; overseeing student projects; supporting theater-related programs and events at school; and overseeing program budget.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, working with the members of the entire Arts Department (Music, Dance, Fine Arts, and Theater) and with the broader faculty and greater school community in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty at St. Paul’s School are responsible for a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, dormitory association, committee work and other duties. Preference will be given to candidates who have an understanding of boarding school life. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred, in theater studies, directing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
EXPERIENCE: Position requires minimum five (5) years of relevant experience as well as experience teaching, preferably in a secondary school setting with demonstrated experience implementing a range of acting/directing styles from classical to modern. The position also requires the use technology to enhance learning, as well as a knowledge and lively interest in pedagogy and the performing arts. As part of a residential boarding school, the candidate must be interested in working and living with adolescents to support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
