Rice Memorial High School’s Director of Residential Life is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the residential experience for Rice Memorial High School students residing on St. Michael’s campus. This includes providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment that contributes to the overall growth and development of the students. The Director of Residential Life works closely with a team of residential staff to create a positive living and learning community.
Key Responsibilities:
Residential Program Management:
Manage the daily operations of the residential program, including room assignments, housing policies, roommate assignments, bus transportation schedule, and onboarding students per SMC policy.
Develop and implement residence hall policies and procedures that promote a safe and respectful living environment, updating an annually published handbook.
Oversee the planning and execution of residential programs and activities that foster community building and personal development.
Manage the staffing for RA’s on duty and study halls
Create and manage the staffing for weekend activities and trips for boarding students
Provide feedback on and evaluate RAs
Point of contact and liaison between RA’s and SMC Residential life/Facilities.
Residential Staff Supervision:
Hire, train, and supervise residential staff members, including resident advisors (RAs) and other support personnel.
Develop and share RA on duty schedules including a transportation schedule based on RA availability.
Conduct regular meetings and training sessions to ensure staff are well-prepared to support students and enforce policies.
Student Support and Counseling:
Provide guidance and support to students facing personal, academic, or social challenges. Connect students to Guidance for additional support.
Serve as a point of contact for students and their families to address concerns and issues related to residential life.
Emergency Response:
Develop and implement emergency response protocols for residential facilities.
Be available for crisis management and response, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Community Building:
Plan and organize events, workshops, and activities to promote a sense of community and belonging among residents.
Encourage and facilitate student involvement in residential life activities.
Budget Management:
Manage the budget for the residential life program, including allocating funds for maintenance, improvements, and residential programming.
Student Conduct and Discipline:
Enforce residential policies and address disciplinary issues as needed.
Communicate with Rice Administrators who will support in determining appropriate consequences.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Previous experience in residential life, student affairs, or a related field.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of adolescent development and the ability to work with high school students.
Crisis management and emergency response training.
Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
