Job Summary:
The Ethel Walker School has an opening for a full-time Director of the Health Center beginning in May 2025. The successful candidate will be a dedicated and skilled medical provider committed to providing care to pre-adolescent and adolescent girls centering the student in partnership with the family and campus support structures. They must have the ability to prioritize student care, ensure comprehensive primary healthcare for students, and foster effective communication with community members, parents, physicians, and healthcare professionals. The Director will supervise nursing staff, provide hands-on treatment, and develop health programs that promote the well-being of all students. Candidates must be comfortable integrating new technology and culturally relevant and responsive frameworks into healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Development & Compliance: Create, maintain, and update school health policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state regulations and managing the bi-annual state inspection process.
Staff Management: Oversee all aspects of nursing staff management, including recruitment, scheduling, training, and maintenance of confidential records.
On-Call Support: Be available by phone during on-call hours for administrative questions and provide nursing coverage as needed inclusive of overnight coverage when necessary.
Health and Safety Management: Ensure proper distribution of student medication as well as proper disposal of expired medications and medical waste, following OSHA guidelines, and maintaining sanitation protocols.
Inventory Management: Manage health center equipment and medical supplies, including ordering as necessary.
Record Keeping: Collect and manage student health records using Blackbaud and MagnusHealth software, ensuring compliance with state immunization regulations. Ensure confidentiality and appropriate discretion when managing medical information.
Healthcare Coordination: Coordinate care with outside pharmacies, physicians, and health centers, and assist in arranging transportation for outside medical appointments.
Health Education: Lead health education initiatives, including the Women’s Health course, and provide CPR/AED/First Aid training as needed by the community. While maintaining an instructor certification.
Program Management: Ensure the health center is current with trends around the health and wellbeing of students with a proactive approach to wellness and physical health.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with all members of the community and specifically the student life staff to address student psychosocial issues, the athletic staff to ensure responsive care for student athletes, the counseling staff and academic support staff. This position will also serve on the Crisis Management Team and Wellness Team.
Budget Management: Oversee the health center budget and communicate with the business office regarding health insurance for international students.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; CT Licensed Nurse with a minimum of 5-7 years of nursing experience.
Certifications: Current instructor certification in American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR, First Aid, and AED; National School Nurse Certification is a plus; Emergency/Pediatric Nursing background is a plus.
