Position Summary The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Biology / Chemistry Teacher to join a diverse academic community for our 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate is committed to guiding young people as they construct their understanding of Science in a student-centered classroom environment. This educator is a collaborator with an appreciation for the teachable moment when moral and ethical questions arise in and out of the classroom. A person with consistently high standards, the candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. With robust interpersonal skills, the selected candidate has a real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and through additional efforts, such as advising students, coaching teams, directing clubs, or supervising activities.
Responsibilities
Teaching 3 sections of Biology and/or Chemistry with lab.
Supervise student research lab during morning and afternoon research periods, providing mentorship in conducting research safely and with scientific soundness.
Serve as an advisor to a group of students.
Collaborate cross-departmentally on the development and execution of a Spring Intensive Course.
Fulfill an additional “plus one” requirement as a mentor to an independent student research team.
Fulfill any additional duties as assigned by the Upper School Director.
Participate in all required meetings, including faculty division meetings, scheduled collaboration times, professional development days, and beginning and end-of-year meetings weeks.
Participate in all required professional development activities.
Provide extra support for students during flex and community times.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
Knowledge of disciplinary core ideas in Chemistry and Biology.
Experience in conducting molecular biology and/or biochemistry research and fluency with a wide range of laboratory techniques preferred.
Ability to lead students in novel independent research projects preferred.
Experience with and enthusiasm for teaching high school science.
Appreciation for the development of a scientific mindset.
Willingness to work collaboratively with all faculty teaching the same course to ensure equity of content and assessment across course sections.
Fluency with the varied hands-on investigation and laboratory-based pedagogy.
Excitement about expanding pedagogy to incorporate new technology and reflect best practices.
Dedication to integrating science with other curriculum subjects in a multidisciplinary approach.
Understanding the developmental milestones for Upper School students.
Experience with advising students.
Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
Robust interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English as well as the target language.
Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
Ability to work with students both in-person and virtually.
Comfort with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Schoology and Zoom.
Skill in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in science education
