Landon seeks a full time Upper School Learning Specialist starting immediately. In collaboration with the other Learning Specialists, as well as other faculty and administrators, the Learning Specialist will help support Landon’s student-centered learning approach and ensure that students’ diverse learning styles and needs are identified, understood, communicated, and supported.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Interpret formal educational evaluations to create individualized student Learning Plans for purposes of supporting faculty in understanding student needs and implementing strategies for academic success
Partner with Academic Advisors and Form Deans to monitor the academic performance of students and develop a support plan when concerns are noted
Support faculty by leading coordinated professional development sessions, offering resources, and guidance to enhance their knowledge of best practices and meeting the needs of all learners
Observe classes in order to appraise support programs and instructional efficacy
Review admissions files with Upper School Admissions Committee
Design and instruct lessons related to study and executive functioning skills including metacognition, organization, and time management
Guide students towards building self-awareness, understanding their learning strengths and challenges, and advocating for their needs
Serve as an advisor and coach a season in the athletics program
Oversee registration and logistics for all College Board and ACT related processes for appropriate students
Collaborate with the College Counseling Department to submit standardized testing accommodations for PSAT and AP examinations
Counsel families seeking educational testing for the purposes of acquiring additional learning support and assessment accommodations
Meet with parents as necessary to discuss student progress, challenges, and areas of growth
Maintain student files and documentation protocols related to learning support with confidentiality
Perform other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Literacy, and/or related field. Master’s degree preferred
At least three years of Upper School work experience in a classroom setting, as a learning specialist or in a related role
Ability to collaborate professionally and courteously with faculty, administrators, and families of diverse backgrounds
Ability to provide a nurturing and mentoring environment for all students
Excellent interpersonal communication, writing and organizational skills
High level of integrity and professionalism and contribute to a positive work environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn other database software
Candidates should be prepared to conduct a demonstration lesson and are encouraged to share details of their professional portfolio.
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 annually.
