Has overall responsibility for interscholastic athletics in grades K-12. Leads the athletic office and supervises, confers and works collaboratively with the Middle School Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, Assistant to the Athletic Director and the Athletic Assistant. Coordinates the overall athletic program of the Upper School and hires, trains and supervises coaches. Schedules Sports Center and fields activities with a master calendar including scheduling, summer programs and weekend clinics. Confers with Head of School on Athletic Department program goals and philosophy. Works collaboratively with Advancement Department Office to promote the department's programs and achievements to enhance fundraising efforts.
Essential Job Functions:
Administers and supervises assigned areas of athletic activity which relate to leadership programs, public relations, coaches and staff, and varied personnel. Works with other directors and administrators to coordinate and integrate events and calendars for a consistent and cohesive setting in the school environment.
Develops and administers a philosophical approach to school athletics that is consistent with the overall philosophy of NSU University School. This approach should be embodied in a statement that is developed through dialogue with other members of the athletic department and approved by the Director of Upper School and Headmaster.
Plans and establishes goals for the department which respond to school mission and philosophy.
Selects, hires, evaluates and supervises athletic department employees as well as coaches for all sports offered by the University School. Provides all coaches with written policies and procedures regarding athletics that are congruent with the philosophy of the school and clearly delineate expectations and responsibilities.
Develops and coordinates collaborative programs with other NSU centers and community groups.
Supports and participates effectively in the solicitation and cultivation of potential donors to the school by taking an active role in promoting athletic programs to appropriate board, individuals and community groups.
Serves as advisor to the UFO athletic liaisons. Represents the Athletic Program/Department at appropriate parent meetings and events.
Schedules all athletic events in coordination with other conference/non-conference schools.
Submits all records, reports and requests to FHSAA in a timely manner.
In collaboration with the Director of Business Operations, develops, monitors and controls athletic budget, expenditures and funds as assigned.
Oversees and plans for appropriate use of facilities, transportation, equipment, etc., for all sports activities.
Assists in identifying and promoting athletes who desire to pursue collegiate athletics by working closely with Director of College Counseling, ensuring letters of support are prepared by coaches, contacting appropriate college personnel and, in general, supporting the application process, as requested or needed.
Promotes active student participation and involvement in the athletic program through personal contact, general and specific announcements, and through other actions as deemed appropriate.
Promotes faculty support of the athletic program by making special announcements at faculty meetings, sharing pertinent information regarding game results and future games, and by encouraging involvement at all levels.
Through coordinated efforts with coaches of all teams, ensures that parents of all athletes are aware of policies, procedures and expectations regarding participation in the school athletic program.
Primary spokesperson for athletics with media, college representatives, governing bodies and the public at large.
Promotes spirit and enthusiasm among the coaches in support of the total athletic program. Assists in the planning of events to boost general school spirit and support the athletic spirit of the school. Assumes responsibility for coordinating and planning the athletic banquets and other recognition ceremonies.
Works with coaches to design methods for programmatic development of each sport to ensure a consistent philosophy at all levels consistent with the head coach/director of each sport's and the school's expectations for excellence in all areas.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

NSU University School is a PK1-12, college-preparatory school serving approximately 1,800 students on the larger Nova Southeastern University campus in South Florida.
