Seattle Academy is seeking a thoughtful, collaborative Assistant Head of Upper School for the 2025-26 school year.
The Assistant Head of Upper School will report to the Head of Upper School and work closely with other key school administrators, faculty, and staff. Core responsibilities include: leading and supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students; fostering a positive and inclusive school culture; addressing issues of student behavior; engaging with parents and guardians; and enhancing student life experiences.
Candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills including attention to detail; the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and in a timely manner; ability to administer policies fairly and consistently. Additional qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills and superb interpersonal skills that include a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively.

This is a salaried (exempt) position with a salary range of $120,000 to $140,000 and is based on a 12-month schedule with summer work expectations. Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and evening work is a requirement of leadership roles in general and by its nature for this position in particular.
General areas of responsibility include:
- Foster a positive school culture that supports the personal and academic growth of all students as fully engaged members of the 9–12 school community.
- Oversee daily operations of the Upper School, including student behavior and discipline, positive school culture, and safety.
- Work closely with the Grade Level Deans of Students and counselors to promote student well-being, ensuring emotional, social, and academic support is available.
- Engage with students regularly to build relationships, address concerns, and create a sense of belonging within the Upper School community.
- Encourage collaboration among faculty, promoting innovative teaching practices and a commitment to continual improvement.
- Serve as a key liaison between the Upper School, parents, and the broader school community, maintaining clear and open communication.
- Collaborate with the admissions team to attract and retain a diverse and talented student body representing the mission and values.
- Actively participate in school events, assemblies, and community functions, fostering a strong sense of unity and school spirit.
- Ensure students adhere to school policies and procedures.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and strategic planning efforts.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education or related field.
- Experience in educational leadership, preferably in a upper school setting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
