Staff Accountant
???????Summary: Sandy Spring Friends School seeks candidates for the position of Staff Accountant. This position is responsible for general accounting tasks and accounts payable functions. This position reports directly to the Controller and has no supervisory responsibilities. SSFS is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Responsibilities include:
Performing all steps of the accounts payable process
Assisting with general accounting functions
Maintaining accounting records
Providing departmental assistance with questions relating to accounts payable
Reconciling monthly credit card purchase orders and utility bills
Assisting external auditors at year end by preparing schedules and invoices; providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures; and preparing any other necessary data
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:A four-year degree or relevant work experience in a business or accounting field is required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in a business office environment, preferably in an independent school or other non-profit setting, as well as a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). A skilled oral and written communicator, meticulously organized, comfortable with juggling multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines. Knowledge of Veracross (a student information system used in independent schools) or other comparable non-profit accounting software modules is helpful. Ideal candidates will also embrace professional development, be willing to develop new initiatives as needs arise, value diversity, and support Quaker beliefs, values, and practices.
Physical Requirements: Daily desk work includes significant amounts of telephone and computer time as well as mobility around the entire campus. This includes frequent walking inside and outside, maneuvering stairs as a part of daily routines. Bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.
