The Program for Young Children (PYC) serves more than 75 children, aged three- to six-years-old.
Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire an energetic and creative full-time Kindergarten Teacher - Maternity Leave Substitute to begin in April 2025 up to June 2025.
The teacher will support the PYC by co-teaching with the kindergarten team in the following ways:
Work collaboratively as a lead co-teacher in the kindergarten classroom to provide the highest quality education and care for the children.
Possess experience in or demonstrate an interest in working with the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.
Plan curriculum and project work with co-teachers and studio teacher.
Supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being.
Possess experience in math and Structured Literacy instruction in early childhood.
Support and extend student work in the classroom through the use of questioning and reflection, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach.
Demonstrate a willingness to support and guide children to research and express their ideas through multiple materials.
Additional responsibilities may include the following:
Prepare a snack in the morning before school.
Be an active partner in supporting the learning of children by providing the scaffolding that ensures a well-run kindergarten program.
Accompany students to PE, music, library, and lunch.
Provide written documentation of student growth using portfolios and continuums.
Take and type notes and photographs for documentation.
Organize photos and typed documents on the computer.
Attend planning, division, department, and full faculty and staff meetings, as requested.
Attend parent meetings.
Participate in Admission events.
Perform administrative duties such as assisting in Before Hours, lunch, recess, and student pick-up.
Participate in field trips and CSG traditions and events as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of the PYC.
Experience, Characteristics, Qualities:
Bachelor’s degree required; preferably with a background in early childhood or child development. Masters degree preferred.
An understanding of the value of an all-girls education and the eagerness to learn about the best ways to help young women of promise to reach their full potential as learners and leaders.
Excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation for and an understanding of the development of young children, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a diverse, collaborative environment.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift or run after a child and be outside in inclement weather.
Travel throughout the campus to complete their duties.
