Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Physical Education Teacher - Aquatics. A team player with a passion for swimming and developing young athletes through our Physical Education classes is the ideal candidate for this position. Looking for candidates to inspire and guide the learning of Grade 5 to Grade 12 students in youth development through aquatics and aquatics safety.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Teach Physical Education classes including swimming to students in Grade 5 to Grade 12.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners in Physical Education classes;, beginners to intermediate.
Develop and deliver a well-planned program of instructional swim classes.
Plan and facilitate student demonstrations of swimming through learning, games, and athletics.
Test and classify swimming ability of students as necessary.
Create and update the curriculum regularly to reflect school priorities; the school’s values of diversity, equity, and belonging (DEIB); a commitment to sustainability; and 21st-century skills.
Work with the Athletic Director overseeing the PE department to ensure curricular alignment with other divisions, state and national standards.
A demonstrated, collaborative approach to working with other physical education team members in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
Implement safety plans, partner with the pool operator, and maintain all relevant logs to ensure that the pool adheres to safety regulations and standards
Know, understand, and follow all NYC and NYS health and safety requirements, including Pool Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plan, and adherence to protocols related to communicable diseases
Be present and on-duty for all camp days that the pool is open
Oversee emergency response plan at pools.
Collaborate with other Physical Education Faculty to build a fun, inclusive and equitable environment for all students and colleagues .
Assess student progress and adjust teaching plans accordingly.
Share student skills development with families through well-crafted reports when appropriate.
Teach age-appropriate swimming classes for designated grades. In pool instruction is required.
Help monitor and lead directed workouts for athletic teams during after-school workouts in the weight room.
Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of students and adults.
Ability to act professionally and keep student records confidential.
Ability to make decisions and handle conflicts.
Maintain strong communication with families and all relevant constituents through appropriate records/documentation, notes and emails, and in-person discussions when appropriate.
Actively participate in a positive school culture through shared duties, faculty meeting discussions, participation in special events, committees, and professional development.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assume role as an advisor for a group of students (approximately 7)
Advise a club or activity and supervise periodic study hall
Demonstrate energetic commitment to professional development
Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to departmental, committee, divisional and grade-level meetings
Accompany students on occasional curricular trips
Attend community events throughout the school year
Salary Range: $73,710 - $88,825

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Science or related field required. Master’s preferred.
Experience: 3 years of teaching experience being lead teacher in a middle or high school environment.
