REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs
Ravenscroft seeks a strategic, visionary, reflective, adaptive, and resourceful Fine Arts leader. The ideal candidate for this position must have demonstrated experience in artistic production on the stage, the performance hall, or in the gallery. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated success in a schoolwide role such as Division Head or Assistant/Associate Division Head, Dean of Faculty, Fine Arts Department Chair, or similar. The candidate should have experience supporting the growth and development of others as well as the evaluation process. Training and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices must be demonstrated, as this individual will be expected to exemplify our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement by holding “unyielding curiosity” in working with others.
WORK HOURS AND EXPECTATIONS:
Exempt administrative position; involves working early/late as needed; four weeks of yearly vacation subject to the approval of the Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs. The major responsibility of the position is to provide vision, leadership coordination, and oversight as they relate to ensuring the highest quality of Fine Arts programming at Ravenscroft — to ensure structures, strategies, and systems for teaching and learning are aligned, adaptive, and consistent with current best practices.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership, instructions, guidance, or counsel to faculty, staff, and administrators; resolve problems at the school level.
Provide leadership in strategic planning and long- and short-term department goals.
Provide principal responsibility for the projection, review, and approval of the department’s yearly budget, capital expenses, and resource management and approve all purchases and reimbursements. Manage, allocate, and monitor department budgets; make budget requests to Executive Officers; and provide advice on budgets and fiscal management.
Approve and provide leadership in general operation of the private lessons and auxiliary arts programs, Fine Arts Association activities, and coordination of drama, music, and visual arts special events.
Provide leadership and oversight to Fine Arts programs, encourage and support continuous improvement of curriculum structure and development, approve class schedules, encourage student recruitment and retention actions and initiatives, and develop or review programmatic initiatives.
Coordinate with the Spiritual Task Force Advisor and Facilities Department for Fine Arts performance needs required for All School Gatherings
Coordinate with Opening of School and Pep Rally Committees for required Fine Arts needs.
Plan and coordinate Fine Arts enrichment opportunities.
Work with the Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs and the Senior Leadership Team to develop strategies, schedules, and collaborations across all three divisions that facilitate the execution of our mission in Fine Arts and at Ravenscroft School.
Provide leadership and guidance in Fine Arts Center facilities management, resource acquisition, and use.
Conduct department meetings and perform related duties.
Administer the Hunter Family Scholarship.
Provide assistance to individual school directors in special initiatives requiring Fine Arts participation or multi-divisional special projects coordination.
Represent the department on the school administrative team and appropriate committees, councils, etc.; serve as advocate and spokesperson at academic, social, and public functions; and maintain community service activities.
Approve the Fine Arts calendar and coordinate class scheduling with the division heads and approve the Fine Arts facility use and availability.
Approve emergency plans and safety procedures for the Fine Arts Center.
Master’s degree in subject area required, with an applied concentration in the performing arts preferred. A terminal degree (Ph.D., D.M., DMA) would be favorable. Certification is not a requirement.
Demonstrated competence in one or more areas of the arts and the ability to work closely with a practicing artist faculty and collaborate in the role of executive producer for shows, concerts, and art exhibitions.
Knowledge of Fine Arts curriculum from PreK through 12th grade and a background in Fine Arts administration.
Understanding of developmentally appropriate experiences for children from Lower School through Upper School.
Fundamental understanding of budgets, capital, facility management, and traveling with large groups within the continental United States and abroad.
