JOB SUMMARY: Teacher has the responsibility of providing in-depth knowledge of subject content and the best teaching practices for students with learning differences. This position will partner with the Mathematics Department Chair and report directly to the Director of Upper School.

Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with different learning styles.
Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.
Collaborate enthusiastically with the Math Department and Grade level team.
Direct one-on-one or small-group instruction.
Develop and prepare educational content including lesson plans, notes, assignments, and assessments.
Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.
Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.
Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
Plan and implement educational activities and events.
Ensure your classroom is clean and orderly.
Prepare and distribute periodic progress reports and semester report cards.
Attend parent-teacher meetings.
Evaluate and document students’ progress.
Follow evidence-based curriculum and strategies adopted by the school.
Align routines and procedures across grade levels.
Maintain a structured, consistent, yet flexible approach to classroom management.
Skilled at differentiating instruction and providing individualized accommodations.
Serve as a grade level advisor and team member managing all aspects of the grade level experience.
Work with parents, faculty, and division heads when academic concerns arise regarding students.
Implement a focus on technology use and adoption within the school.
Represent the school at educational conferences and associations.
Participate in any accreditation process for the school.
Attend all staff meetings and staff retreats.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Upper School or the Head of School.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred), Teacher Certificate in Math preferred, not required.

Experience:
Experience in independent schools, with a strong background in Math
Exceptionally capable in both written and oral communication
Excellent organizational and presentation skills
Technologically savvy, Google Suite
Knowledge of (and experience with) students with diagnosed learning disabilities and dyslexia
The Briarwood School is a not-for-profit, independent co-ed day school devoted to educating students in grades K-12 with diagnosed learning disabilities, language disorders and/or ADHD. Founded in 1967 and accredited by Cognia, The Briarwood School serves over 300 students in small class sizes of 10 or fewer students. All of the students in Lower, Middle and Upper Schools demonstrate average to above-average intelligence with a broad range of learning disabilities that include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, speech/language disorders, along with written and expressive language disorders.
