Job Title: Upper School History Teacher
Division: Upper School
Reports to: Head of Upper School and Chair of the History Department
Summary:
The Upper School History Department at King seeks a dynamic, full-time, History teacher to teach world history beginning in the 2025-2026 year. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Upper School teachers, including the primary teaching load of four sections.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teach 4 sections of grade 9 and/or grade 10 World History.
Intense focus on developing students’ reading, writing and critical analysis skills.
Teacher Collaboration
Collaborates with grade level teachers and other department members to coordinate a clear scope and sequence from grade to grade in terms of both subject matter and skills development.
Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.
Participate in all required meetings.
Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress as necessary.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in History or historically-related fields in the humanities or social sciences, with strong disciplinary knowledge of world history. Graduate degree is a plus, but not required.
Strong skills in reading and writing instruction.
Possess a sound understanding of the developmental stages of adolescents from the ages of 13-15.
Demonstrated capacity in facilitating differentiated, student-centered best practices, including but not limited to simulations, debates, and the Harkness method.
Ability and willingness to encourage student discovery and autonomy of thought.
A passion for historical research and the capacity to collaborate in designing research opportunities for students from the ages of 13-15.
Strong competence in topics of global studies.
The candidate should be organized and able to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail.
