Job Summary: Pembroke Hill School seeks a caring, growth-minded educator to join its early childhood team as a lead teacher. In partnership with a faculty assistant, the lead teacher builds community and encourages children to play, investigate, problem-solve, and construct new understandings in a welcoming, joyful environment. Lead teachers plan for and support children’s growth and development by observing, evaluating, and knowing children well and leading learning experiences and project work that build on student interests, motivations, and wonderings.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, our faculty and staff believe in an image of the child as capable, curious, and eager to learn and make sense of the world. Lead Teachers serve as positive role models and guides for children, facilitate healthy and productive relationships, and implement student-centered curriculum and classroom routines. They make the process of learning visible through a variety of documentation techniques. Lead teachers engage families in meaningful ways, such as project work, guest experts, readers, and partners in children’s learning journey.
Schedule: Teaching positions are based on the school year (August through May). During the school year, there are three school vacations – one week at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December, and two weeks in March – plus holidays, personal and sick days.
