Position Available: Blair seeks an experienced history teacher for the 2025-2026 school year; the ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in world and U.S. history. In addition, they will have a background in discussion-based pedagogies and experience guiding students through research projects. Candidates must enjoy working with adolescents and possess an exceptional work ethic, strong communication skills and a commitment to productive collaboration with colleagues in the history department.
In particular, the person in this role will:
Have earned a BA in history or completed an advanced degree in the subject;
Teach sections of one of the core courses in the department (global history, modern European history and U.S. history);
Have experience designing and implementing advanced elective course options (particularly in non-U.S. history-related topics);
Help students refine their questioning, critical reading, analytical writing and class discussion skills;
Collaborate with department colleagues to provide a wide range of programming to the school community (i.e., taking students to debates, lectures, museum openings, conferences and supporting the Society of Skeptics weekly speaker series on campus); and
Actively contribute to department efforts to review and reimagine the history curriculum in the years ahead.
Typical job responsibilities include:
Teaching four sections (with two preparations) each semester;
Coaching or assisting with a sport for two seasons or activities for three seasons;
Advising a group of six students; and
Providing weekly supervision for boarding students during evening and weekend hours.
