Villa Academy seeks a long-term substitute for one of our Instructional Assistant & Extended Day Teachers (serving Preschool students) to join its team beginning February 10, 2025 and concluding June 18, 2025. There is also an opportunity for this position to return for Fall 2025. The Preschool Instructional Assistant & Extended Day Teacher works directly with students aged three to five during and after school. This role will support Preschool teachers during the school day and partner with the rest of the Extended Day team after school. Hours are 10 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Throughout the year there will be additional hours required when school is closed, and full-day care is offered. This is a temporary, long-term substitute position that follows the academic calendar, reporting to the Director of Student Experience and the Early Childhood Education Coordinator.
The ideal candidate has a current knowledge of early childhood education. They will know, appreciate, and enjoy young learners and be well-versed in their developmental needs. The candidate will be enthusiastic, informed, engaging, and experienced in developmentally appropriate practices. This candidate will be able to quickly form positive relationships with students and their families, as well as support Preschool student development.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Preschool and Extended Day teams by maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment.
Facilitate play-based, child-centered after-school learning experiences for children aged three to five.
Guide some individual, small group, and whole class instruction as directed by Preschool teachers during the school day.
Organize and implement developmentally appropriate activities for Preschool students, during and after school.
Help prepare instructional materials and classroom supplies.
Supervise students during transitions, mealtimes, and outdoor activities to ensure safety and engagement.
Provide care and rest periods for the children, as well as a variety of other services required for a licensed facility.
Administer basic first aid when necessary.
Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment.
Effectively partner and communicate with families, colleagues, and administration to appropriately challenge and support students.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and improve instructional strategies.
Integrate technology and hands-on activities to enhance learning experiences.
Regularly assess, evaluate, and provide feedback on student performance.
Participate in faculty/staff, grade level, and division meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate or a Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; teaching credential preferred.
2+ years of experience working with children aged three to five in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting.
Experience in planning and leading activities for Preschool-aged students.
Desire to utilize outdoor spaces to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment.
Readiness to obtain a Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families Merit certification, required of all employees in licensed facilities.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, kneel and sit on the floor, and be active with children.
Capacity to perform all housekeeping tasks and any other duties as part of the role's responsibilities.
Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, faculty/staff, and campus partners.
Proficiency with instructional technology including document cameras, interactive whiteboards, web-based learning software, and Google apps.
Positive energy and enthusiasm for working in a Preschool through Eighth Grade, faith-based independent school.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Anticipated salary is $3,968.80/month for the five-month tenure. This position is not eligible for benefits.
