Position Summary Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for a full time Lower and Middle School Library Teacher for a leave replacement beginning in late December 2024 through the end of the school year in June 2025. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing a love of reading in students and eager to collaborate with colleagues. The successful candidate will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage.
Responsibilities
Teach weekly Library and Technology classes to students in preschool through grade 4, as well as during Friday Innovation Stations.
Teach 5th grade Information Literacy once per 7-day cycle and 6th grade Information Literacy twice per 7-day cycle.
Oversee and manage all aspects of the Middle and Lower School libraries including circulation, shelving, displays, and the library website.
Collaborate with faculty to support the development of student research skills.
Coordinate with 5th grade team to produce Google sites for native plants and seeds.
Serve as a co-advisor to 10-12 students (provide academic and emotional support, communicate regularly with parents/guardians, host in-person conferences in February).
Participate in divisional, departmental, and grade-level meetings.
Perform additional duties (lunch duty, substitute teaching for colleagues, afternoon carline, break duty) as assigned by the Division Director.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
3+ years of experience as a library teacher; a keen interest in the development of learners in this age group
Experience instructing a diverse student population
Demonstrated understanding of cultural competency and full commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Enthusiasm for and effective use of technology in the classroom
Desire for ongoing professional growth and membership in a community of learners
Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School.
