Madison Country Day School, a PreK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, is seeking a Pre-K- Grade 4 PYP music educator for a 75% position beginning in August 2025.
Description
Madison Country Day School, a Pre-K through grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, seeks a passionate and dynamic Early Childhood/Elementary Music Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general music, choir direction, and individual/group piano instruction. The teacher will foster a love for music in students through engaging and developmentally appropriate music lessons, incorporating Orff and Kodály methodologies. Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program is helpful. This position requires a creative and enthusiastic educator committed to inspiring young musicians, working with a team to develop a strong continuum of music education, and developing their musical skills in a nurturing environment.
This faculty position will contribute to our mission through the following activities and responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging general music classes for elementary students, focusing on music literacy, rhythm, melody, movement and musical expression.
Co-direct and/or accompany elementary choirs.
Teach individual piano lessons, providing differentiated instruction to students of varying skill levels.
Integrate Orff and Kodály methods into music lessons.
Organize and prepare students for performances and recitals.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and other music educators to align curriculum with school goals and interdisciplinary learning.
Assess and track student progress.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Stay current with best practices in music education and participate in professional development opportunities.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in music activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
Orff Schulwerk and/or Kodály methodology is highly desirable.
Experience teaching general music, choir, and piano to elementary-aged students.
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
Passion for music education and the ability to inspire and motivate young learners.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience teaching elementary general music, choir, and piano lessons in a school setting.
Familiarity with various educational technologies and music education software.
Background/experience with IB PYP framework
Working Conditions:
75% position, with duties including classroom teaching, rehearsals, and evening performances.
