Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) seeks a full-time science teacher for the start of the 2025-26
school year. Ideal candidates will be prepared and willing to teach a range of physics classes to students in the 11th and 12th grades and possess a desire to tailor instruction, assessment, and advising in accordance with the current best practices for teaching boys. MBA promotes a “teacher-coach” model in which full-time faculty members are expected to extend their teaching beyond the four walls of the classroom into athletic and extracurricular activities depending on the interests of the faculty member and the needs of the school. Furthermore, all MBA faculty members are expected to guide the boys not only in the pursuit of academic excellence, but also in the importance of kindness, humility, respect, integrity, and perseverance as part of developing twenty-first century gentlemen.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare material and lesson plans to teach two-to-three separate curricula in up to four classes
Incorporate existing course materials as well as develop new ones in consultation with the Lead Teacher
Maintain parity with Lead Teacher and other area teachers in scope and sequence of course materials
Compose meaningful typed or hand-written comments on student progress three times annually
Remain available and flexible throughout the school day for inter-departmental absence coverage
Coach or lead significant extracurricular sport(s) or activity/activities as assigned
Sponsor an advisory of up to 14 students (after teaching at MBA for one year)
Express care and concern for boys beyond classroom achievement
Offer individualized care and out-of-class assistance to struggling students
Attend all department meetings, faculty meetings, area meetings, and other required events outlined in the Faculty Handbook
Participate in regular professional growth and development opportunities, including staying abreast of best practices for teaching boys
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required
Classroom experience preferred, ideally with students in grades 7-12
An advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or General Science is preferred
Physics or other science teaching experience and experience with boys schools are also preferred
