Job Title: Spanish Teacher
Reports To: World Language Department Chair
Position Summary: Vermont Academy seeks a teacher who is passionate about teaching Spanish at multiple levels. Teaching with an immersion-style approach, the teachers in the World Language Department aim for appropriate levels of proficiency each year by using multiple and varied media and activities to engage students in the process of learning another language. The department also embraces the philosophy of backward design which asks teachers to set year-end goals for each level and use excellent planning and organization to help students attain these goals. Finally, the World Language Department is fully committed to teaching another language and culture so that students can become more culturally competent and more aware of issues related to social justice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach four to five sections of Spanish courses.
Live in, or serve as an affiliate to one of the Academy’s dormitories 1-2 nights per week, coach or supervise an activity during two seasons, priority given to those with experience with crew, nordic skiing, or soccer, serve as an academic advisor, monthly weekend duty, and participate in school traditions, and standing committees.
Salary is based on degrees, experience, and the contributions the candidate can make to the school.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Advanced degree preferred.
3-5 years of previous experience is preferred.
