The Harpeth Hall School seeks a dynamic, student-centered middle school English and language arts teacher. Candidates should possess a passion for the discipline of English and an enthusiasm for working with middle school students in an all-girls environment. The position is full-time and exempt and begins August 1, 2025.
Qualified applicants will have a degree in English or a closely related field, as well as teaching experience at the upper elementary and / or middle school level(s). A master’s degree and a minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience are preferred.
The candidate is one who:
Teaches with clarity, creativity, consistency, and joy
Cultivates strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
Maintains high expectations for students and for themselves
Has a strong background in reading, literature, and writing instruction
Is practiced in the backwards-design process of curricular planning
Manages the classroom in a composed and confident manner
Remains current on trends in education, English pedagogy, and education technology
Desire to participate actively in the school community outside the classroom
Listens thoughtfully to all constituents with a posture of curiosity
Expectations will include, but are not limited to:
Teaching three or four sections of middle school English
Serving as advisor to a small group of middle school students
Participating in / facilitating extracurricular activities
Providing meaningful feedback that fosters a growth mindset among all students
Collaborating frequently with a grade level English teaching partner to design and implement curricular units, lesson plans, and assessments
Engaging actively with grade level colleagues to support students and families
Implementing practices that foster the school’s values, build students’ social-emotional skills, and develop a strong work ethic
