Job Summary: The Director of College Counseling will oversee and manage all aspects of the College Counseling Program and develop programming for students, parents, and faculty.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and regularly review the college counseling curriculum
Coordinate the school’s efforts in counseling students and their families through the entire college selection, application, admission, and financial aid process by planning appropriate communication, conferences, and meetings with families and students
Create a calendar of college counseling educational programming for students and families
Develop a balanced college list and testing plan for and with individual students
Assist with and review college applications and essays, ensuring an in-depth representation of the student
Assist students and parents with the financial aid and scholarship process
Conduct College Counseling Seminars
Compose a letter of recommendation for each senior
Educate students about standardized testing and provide opportunities to take practice tests
Maintain awareness of issues and trends in college admission and higher education
Visit colleges to develop and maintain relationships with college representatives
Represent the school at professional meetings and college fairs
Meet with representatives of colleges who visit the school
Work with faculty to develop requisite skills for writing strong teacher recommendations
Provide transportation for students to test centers and local college events such as college fairs
Maintain membership in professional organizations
Manage the departmental budget
Serve as an advisor to a group of students in various grades
Serve on the Administrative Council
Perform duties traditionally associated with boarding school faculty/staff
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School and to support the School and its leadership

Strong communication and public speaking skills, including the ability to give large group presentations, moderate small group meetings, and conduct individual and family meetings
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Detail orientation and excellent organizational skills
Familiarity with and capability to utilize a variety of technology, software, and data systems including SCOIR, Common Application, and Veracross
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree preferred
Extensive experience in boarding schools preferred
Teaching, coaching, and academic advising experience valued
