Upper School Chemistry Teacher, Leave Replacement Beginning Late August 2025 – Mid January 2026
Position: Upper School Chemistry Teacher, Leave Raplacement Reports to: Upper School Division Head and Science Department Chair FLSA: Exempt, full time Salary Range: Prorated, based on an annualized salary of $65,000 to $85,000 commensurate with education and experience
The Upper School Chemistry candidate will join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced science department. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated interest in upper school education, enthusiasm for science, and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with adolescent girls.
Responsibilities:
Courses including, but not limited to:
10th grade Chemistry (multiple sections)
Environmental Science and/or Biochemistry
Occasional field work and maintenance at the school’s roof garden
Provide academic support for students outside of class time - conduct office hours, answer homework questions, communicate via email, etc.
Work closely with the Upper School academic dean and science department chair to:
Develop a robust and engaging curriculum tailored to this age group
Design science experiments and projects that foster active learning
Deliver lessons that integrate effective reading comprehension and study skills
Attend departmental and faculty meetings
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
Support the students and division by covering study halls, emergency coverage, lunch duties, and other assignments as needed
Requirements & Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in science required
Master degree in science or teaching highly preferred
Previous teaching experience required
Demonstrate proficiency with using technology and scientific probes
Be open to STEM collaboration with colleagues from different departments
Exhibit excellent classroom management skills appropriate for Upper School students
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy
Proficient with current educational technology, especially blended learning platforms and strategies
Positive team player with a desire to contribute and share your gifts and talents with the students and administration of the school
