Staten Island Academy seeks a leader for their newly installed Innovation Lab.
The Innovation Lab Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the Innovation Lab, both the physical equipment and the program implementation. The Academy sees the Innovation Lab as a collaborative space designed to foster creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among students.
The Innovation Lab Coordinator will develop and implement lesson plans and activities that encourage hands-on learning and experimentation, as well as collaborate with teachers to integrate the lab's resources into their curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and teach an engaging STEAM curriculum that utilizes the Innovation Lab’s resources and promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration among students.
Collaborate with teachers to develop interdisciplinary projects and lessons that integrate the Innovation Lab's resources into their curriculum.
Supervise the Innovation Lab's physical space, ensuring that it is clean, organized, and stocked with the necessary materials and supplies.
Manage the Innovation Lab's budget in order to oversee the maintenance of the equipment and maintain the inventory of consumable materials.
Supervise and train student assistants, volunteers, and employees working in the Innovation Lab.
Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in digital fabrication, STEAM education, and educational technology.
Participate in professional development opportunities to improve knowledge and skills related to innovation and educational practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Engineering, Design, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Experience working in an educational or innovation-focused environment, with a strong understanding of design thinking, project-based learning, and STEAM education principles.
Experience with robotics and digital fabrication technologies that includes using digital design software, laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing and scanning, or other related technologies.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
