Randolph School seeks a dynamic, accounting proficient Controller to begin in February 2025 or before. The primary responsibility of the Controller will be to oversee and coordinate all aspects of the school’s accounting department. The Controller will possess exceptional leadership skills, a strong background in accounting and finance, a proven commitment to accurate financial reporting and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the ideal candidate will be a respected colleague who possesses strong relational skills.

Additionally, the Controller will be responsible for:
Supervising accounts payable, by approved purchase orders, reviewing and approving invoice coding and 1099 preparation
Internal controls, the review of monthly payroll, collection and submission of data for 5500’s and 990’s
Assisting with budget preparation
Ensuring accuracy of continuous record of cash and financial position of the School
Creating and distributing financial and ad-hoc reports to appropriate directors and leaders
Maintaining fixed asset records and coordinating with management the determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets for monthly depreciation
Managing bank and trust accounts, projecting annual cash flow needs, and investing surplus cash in an appropriate manner for maximum returns
Preparing reports for regulatory agencies
Coordinating with human resources to review the administration of all benefit programs
Developing and maintaining a chart of accounts and overall fund accounting system consistent with NAIS and FASB guidelines
Coordinating month-end close process with accounting staff; reviewing and posting journal entries; reconciling balance sheet accounts, investment activities and bank activities monthly; performing aging analysis and lease amortization; maintaining schedule of net assets and Due To/From accounts
Managing accounting for major construction projects
Reconciling monthly with the development office for accurate recognition of all cash, stock and non-cash gifts
Reconciling all pledges receivable and coordinating with Development to maintain accurate records for the Capital Campaign, including discounts on pledges, NPV calculations, and recording allowances
Attending and documenting minutes of all Finance Committee meetings
Managing the Facility-Use Rental Committee and document minutes of meetings
Managing the Tailored Tuition Committee with Director of Admissions
Serving as liaison with auditors, oversee annual audit to include analysis and reporting to the Audit Committee
Qualification Requirements
Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and presentation skills
Proficient in Excel; specifically, the financial and accounting functions
Advanced experience with Accounting Systems; Veracross preferred
5+ years’ experience within the accounting field, ideally in an independent school environment
Strategic thinker and empathetic problem solver
CPA licensing preferred
