Tilton School seeks an experienced and energetic Science teacher with a passion for developing student skills and understandings in alignment with Tilton’s Mastery Approach.  Tilton School faculty design learning experiences that build the essential skills and sensibilities our students will need to be life-ready, at college and beyond. As such, we seek a compelling and passionate educator to teach four-to-five sections of the life and/or physical sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) at various levels or related electives in our STEAM Division. Flexibility and experience to teach across two or more domains in science is preferred, but not a requirement for consideration.

Science courses at Tilton School aim to help students recognize and appreciate the utility of science as well as its intrinsic beauty. Through discussion, collaborative work, and independent study, Tilton science faculty teach students to read, write, and speak about the scientific world with clarity and precision. Tilton’s science courses occur in integrated laboratory/classrooms, incorporating hands-on lab experience into the routine of the class. Empowered in this way, our students cultivate a nuanced, global, and well-informed world view. As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute two seasons in the co-curricular and/or athletic program, serve as a student advisor, and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position can include housing.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

•  Outstanding skills in oral and written communication;
•  Ability to prepare course outline for each teaching assignment and use Google Classroom as a primary tool for communicating course work with students;
•  Ability to promptly access, evaluate, and provide feedback on student work according to the Standards Based Assessment and Reporting (SBAR) guidelines;
•  Expertise in the integration of technology into classroom instruction;
•  Familiarity with Universal Design and Learning (UDL) and Understanding by Design (UbD);
• An eagerness to work in an intense, changing and supportive learning community.

Qualifications 

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field 

Preferred: Experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post-secondary instruction.
